About Ahmad

Ahmad Gaied describes himself as “a big kid from Scarborough” who grew up in Malvern.
He began his journey in the labour movement as a proud grocery store worker and member of UFCW Local 1006A, where he learned first hand how to organize and stand up for fairness, dignity, and respect at work.
Ahmad was first elected to the OFL leadership in 2015 as Executive Vice-President and, in 2019, as Secretary-Treasurer. With nearly a decade of leadership experience at the OFL, Ahmad brings proven skill, stability, and a deep knowledge of the organization’s operations and finances.
When Ahmad was first elected, the OFL was facing a serious financial crisis and burdened with mounting debt, layoffs, and limited resources to cover even basic operations.
As Secretary-Treasurer, Ahmad worked hard to rebuild the OFL’s finances, from the ground up.
Through responsible financial management, Ahmad delivered balanced budgets and consistent surpluses. He ensured every dollar went where it mattered most: supporting workers on the front lines. His steady leadership has restored financial stability, ensured accountability and transparency, and positioned the OFL to take on corporate power and government attacks with confidence and strength.
Ahmad’s work has never simply been about the numbers alone. It’s been about putting workers first.
He has remained close to rank-and-file members, walking countless picket lines and supporting organizing drives and workers across Ontario as they fight for better wages, safer workplaces, and stronger unions.
As an African-Arab, Black-racialized, and Muslim man, Ahmad understands the power of equity and inclusion, and doesn't treat them as buzzwords.
It is essential to build a labour movement where every worker, community, labour council, equity-deserving groups, and affiliate has a voice at the OFL.
With experience, integrity, and a commitment to working people, Ahmad is ready to keep fighting for a stronger, more united, and truly worker-led Ontario Federation of Labour.
